Role:
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious globally focused organisation. One of their key objectives is to boost the amount of research and development funding that governments across Europe devote to plant-based and cultivated meat. To date they have focused their engagement efforts at the EU level. Going forward, they want to start working at the national level in countries across Europe, to mobilise R&D funding and deliver wider policy change to support sustainable proteins. To achieve that, they need to decide which countries to focus their efforts on and to start building relationships at the national level.
This newly created, externally funded role is a one-year contract for a Policy Analyst to help map, build relationships and identify future opportunities for engagement across Europe. The project will involve conducting research comparing the opportunities for boosting R&D funding across different countries, prioritizing which countries to focus on, conducting ecosystem mapping, building relationships with key actors, and making strategic recommendations for further engagement beyond the end of the project.
As a member of the Policy team this role will contribute to how quickly and successfully Europe moves to a more sustainable food system.

As a member of the Policy team this role will contribute to how quickly and successfully Europe moves to a more sustainable food system.
In this role you will:
- Carry out desk research on approximately 20 European countries, looking at factors such as the level of public R&D funding dedicated to food, agriculture and climate change mitigation, the existing research ecosystem, the position of national governments on sustainable proteins, and the relative influence of national governments on EU policy. Shortlist approx. 10 countries for further investigation
- Conduct deep-dive ecosystem mapping into the 10 European countries, using creative and analytical thinking to identify opportunities for engagement
- Build initial relationships with national-level stakeholders (policymakers, climate and global health NGOs, researchers, companies) to map ecosystems and to motivate other actors to promote sustainable proteins
- Weigh up the various inputs you have received and make detailed, strategic recommendations about the top five countries for the organisation to prioritise. You will consider existing sustainable protein ecosystems as well as where there is potential to grow sustainable protein ecosystems in future
- Develop thoughtful, strategic and comprehensive engagement plans for five European countries, outlining what opportunities exist for the organisation to advance its mission and which actors to work with
- Foster relationships with stakeholders and policymakers in these countries.
Candidate:
- A clear passion for the organisation’s philosophy and mission
