This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious team to plan and execute the charity’s strategic approach to policy and public affairs development across science, research, innovation and health policy areas such as mental health and health inequalities. You will help identify, scope and develop policy positions and effectively communicate these to governments, the NHS, science and health policymakers and the public, through a variety of mechanisms. You will also manage a network of external stakeholder relationships to advance the policy and public affairs agenda. The role will primarily be focused on Westminster, UK life sciences policy and England health policy, but will also provide support to colleagues in the devolved nations.

- Build and manage a network of external stakeholder relationships to advance the policy agenda, including with policy makers, parliamentarians, clinicians, charities, industry partners, professional bodies and regulators
- Continually horizon scan the policy environment to proactively spot opportunities to influence and to position the charity as a thought leader
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization; provide expert knowledge and advice to inform and support internal colleagues, including briefing senior leaders on the latest policy development
- Lead the development and delivery of high quality, evidence-based policy positions, briefings, consultation responses and reports on health, science, research and other issues
- Work with the head of policy and external affairs to plan, oversee and publish commissioned policy research
- Support the head of policy and external affairs to deliver a public affairs programme in Westminster and the devolved nations
- Represent the charity and its policy positions at external meetings and events, ensuring they are a respected voice for change.

This role would ideally suit a senior policy and public affairs officer (or established officer) looking for the next level and a broader remit.

- Significant experience of policy analysis and development
- Good understanding of UK science, innovation and research policy issues and funding structures
- Good understanding of the UK political systems and health policy and structures
- Understanding of medicines regulatory structures and processes
- Experience of managing a portfolio of policy work, prioritising effectively and delivering work to deadlines
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to construct concise arguments for different audiences
- Ability to translate complex policy into accessible language for lay audiences
- Effective time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities to meet planned and unplanned needs
- Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively to a range of audiences.
