Role:
This role joins our client’s Trials Unit, which designs and conducts national randomised controlled trials and evaluations of educational interventions. Their work generates robust evidence that informs the education community’s decision making.
They are currently working on a number of classroom evaluation work that covers teaching methods and the evaluation of the National Tutoring Programme; a scheme that provides additional, targeted support for children and young people in schools who have been most affected by disruption to their education as a result of the pandemic.
The team is made up of statisticians, researchers and trial managers who have a unique blend of expertise that cover all aspects of Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) and Quasi-Experimental Designs (QEDs). They provide evaluation services in an education setting, including both impact and process evaluations.
Your role as Senior Research Manager will be fundamental in the delivery of robust education evaluation. You’ll project manage RCTs and QEDs, write evaluation reports and protocols, prepare data sets, and keep clients updated. You’ll guide junior members of the team and collaborate with the Trials Director in the development of proposals for future RCTs/QEDs as well as lead on other quantitative evaluations.

- Lead the impact and process evaluation elements of a trial
- Write trials reports, proposals and design protocols for future trials
- Lead other quantitative projects such as observational studies
- Provide advice, instruction and training to other research staff
- Ensure their methodology remains cutting-edge for education trials
- Build strong client relationships
- Publish academic papers, either concerning individual trials or general issues of trial methodology
- Line manage junior members of the team.
Candidate:
You may have been a Trial Manager; Researcher, Evaluations expert or a quantitative researcher. You could come from any field of research, what’s key is that you’ll have a background in RCT and/or QEDs or be a strong quantitative researcher keen to learn.

- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, or equivalent work experience
- An understanding of key methodological issues in RCTs and QEDs, not necessarily within the field of education research
- The ability to manage multi-disciplinary evaluation teams
- Keen interest in developing additional methodological skills and contributing to the development of new and innovative approaches to research and analysis
- Experience in interpreting and writing up statistical analyses.
